A crossing for Southwick

Wiltshire Council is to put a puffin crossing on Wynsome Street. The crossing has been a long time coming - the story begins in 2009, when planning permission was initially refused by WC, but then given on appeal to the Greensquare Group for the development of the former Mowlem's site.

At the time a condition was applied requiring the developer to implement a signal controlled 'Puffin' Crossing at the location of a currently uncontrolled crossing point on Wynsome Street. The proposal was duly advertised, and six objections were received, including one from the Parish Council. One concern was loss of on-street parking spaces, and questions were raised as to whether the proposed site for the crossing was the best one.

A survey was done to see where people crossed the road at the moment, and the original site was found to be where the vast majority of pedestrians crossed, so the crossing will be built as advertised.
