Bungling Council defers parking changes

4 Aug 2010

Wiltshire Council has put off making changes to parking arrangements in Westbury, Trowbridge, Melksham and Warminster because the council is also reviewing parking arrangements across the whole county and someone has spotted the fact that attempting to implement two lots of changes to parking at the same time could cause chaos.

So the review of the towns, which includes possible changes to on-street provision and the extent of yellow lines and parking restrictions, will be delayed and incorporated in the county-wide review, which is likely to involve significant increases in parking charges.

A spokesman for the Liberal Democrat Group on the council said, "Clearly it makes sense to bring the two reviews together, but it's astonishing that the two processes went so far without anyone noticing that there was an overlap."
