Calls to Save Wiltshire Mind

28 Aug 2012

Wiltshire councillor Jon Hubbard has today called on the council to step in to protect the future of local charity Wiltshire Mind.

The charity based at Gifford's Court Surgery Melksham provides support services for people with various mental disorders.
Speaking following a meeting with some of the staff at the charity, Jon said "this is an irreplaceable service meeting a much needed but often little recognised need in our communities. Over 2 years ago, Wiltshire mind lost a contract from Wiltshire council to provide mental health services, but have continued to serve many people across the county. It would be a tragedy if these support services were to cease. Maintaining the service, will mean that the lives not only of those in direct receipt, but also those off friends and families of those in need will be immeasurably improved, ignoring those needs, or pretending that they can be met elsewhere is simply denial of reality"

Cllr Hubbard, who leads the Lib Dem group on the council, has asked for an urgent meeting with council officers to explores ways of helping the charity continue it's work.
