Car parking charges to shoot up

10 Dec 2017

Cash-strapped Wiltshire Council wants to make more money from car parking, and has come up with a number of possible ways to do this. These include:

- Applying an 'inflationary' increase of around 10%

- Charging for Sundays and Bank Holidays

- Charging in those car parks which are currently free

- Increasing season ticket prices

- Increasing prices for residents' permits

- Cutting the 'grace period' in pay and display car parks thus getting more fines.

There will now be a 'consultation' on the proposals. This will be framed to get the answers the council wants, and the cabinet will then agree some or all of the price increases in January, for implementation later in 2018 when the legal processes have been completed. That's apart from the 10% inflationary increase which will be brought in as soon as possible.

Cabinet agenda

The Conservatives are threatening to axe more bus services if they don't get their way over parking charges.
