Chapmanslade to get weight limit

6 Aug 2013

If you're a Chapmanslade resident or a lorry driver you may be confused about what weigh restrictions apply.

The road has 17 tonne restriction signs, the parish council wants 7.5t and Wiltshire Council says it can have 18t.

There is no weight restriction on the A3098 through the village now. The 17t limit was scrapped in 2006 as a result of new government regulations, but nobody bothered to take the signs down or put in a new limit. WC says it doesn't want to put in a 7.5t restriction at the moment because it's too difficult. However it may do so in future as part of a wider scheme which would include Maiden Bradley and Corsley.

So a Traffic Regulation Order to make an 18 tonne weight restriction on the A3098, from Berkley Cross in Somerset through Chapmanslade to the slip road with the A36 at Dead Maids will be advertised by the Council.
