Chicken joint cut
Wiltshire Police asked the council to review the license of Favourite Chicken and Ribs, Market Place Trowbridge. They alleged the business was contributing to violence and anti-social behaviour in the town, as well as breaching the terms of its license by serving customers later than permitted.
At a hearing on Monday July 18th police said that between 1st of January 2010 and 31st May 2011 more than 50 incidents were linked to the premises. Three quarters of the incidents of disorder occurred after 04.00 hours. In the same period police said they found the premises to be operating beyond its permitted hours on several occasions despite previous formal warnings. The police said they had difficulties getting CCTV images from the system installed at the premises, and that additional conditions were required to ensure that the licensing objectives, particularly the prevention of crime & disorder and public safety, are met.
In return the manager of the takeaway, Kenan Olmez, submitted a petition from over a hundred of his customers asking for the current hours - till 0500 on Friday and Saturday nights and 0300 the rest of the week - to be kept.
Councillors agreed with request from the police and cut the licensing hours back to 0300 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights with a requirement to provide door staff after midnight on those nights, and to make sure no-one was served after closing time.
