Civic Offices to become Housing Estate Shock

The Council has agreed to a £250,000 grant to study the possibility of creating a new civic focus on the other side of Princess Street with a rebuild of the Wyvern theatre, a new museum and art gallery and perhaps council offices funded by the development of the civic offices site for housing.

The study follows the Council twice being turned down for lottery funding for a new museum and art gallery.

Councillor Toby Robson says "The study will take some time and will return to the Council for a decision. My first priority is local residents and their views. If elected in May this will be my basis for the civic offices decision and all the many controversial issues that beset a council underfunded by Government."
