Cold weather law makes WC help the homeless

14 Jan 2016

Wiltshire Council has a statutory duty to provide severe weather emergency provisions (SWEP) to anyone who is sleeping rough when the weather is predicted to fall to 0 degrees or below for three consecutive nights.

With temperatures forecast to remain at zero or below until early next week that now kicks in.

As a result, WC is offering overnight accommodation for those affected and individuals should attend one of the Housing Options Hubs as soon as possible for help and support. These are at Monkton Park in Chippenham, County Hall in Trowbridge and Bourne Hill in Salisbury. WC will work with partner agencies to support individuals, not just during the worst weather but also by looking at longer term housing solutions.

During work hours, the advice service can be contacted on Chippenham - 01249 706666, Trowbridge - 01225 718005 or Salisbury - 01722 434233 but after 5.30pm, please contact the Emergency Team on 0845 60 70 888.
