Conservatives spend £370,000 improving councillors car-park

Despite forcing Wiltshire residents to pay a massive increase in parking charges across Wiltshire it has been revealed that Conservative Councillors have spent £370,000 on resurfacing a car park that will only be used for a few years by councillors and staff at the council's temporary offices at Shurnhold in Melksham.

Lib Dem Group Leader Jon Hubbard said: "This is a temporary car park in the council's temporary offices, and the Conservatives didn't think it needed resurfacing when teachers and parents used it, back when the site used to be George Ward School.

"As the Conservatives claim they have no choice but to increase car parking charges for everyone else, this waste is criminal.

"This is an astonishing cost for such a project, and it really is difficult to see where nigh on half a million went.

"The Conservative Group are acting like they are only interested in themselves. Couldn't they have survived with a scrappier car park and used this money to help support our High Street's by returning the 1 hour free parking or fixing our roads."
