Council extracts more money from people in care

About 3,500 people receive care at home services from Wiltshire Council, and three quarters of them pay towards the costs. Following new rules introduced in 2016, and with work continuing on assessments of individuals, the amount people are paying has generally increased.
626 assessments carried out from August '16 to November '17 have resulted in an annualised increase in payments of £1.4million - an average of over £2,000 per person per year.
The overall annual profit for the council since the process started is £2,220,000.
The team responsible for the reassessments is also able to help with claiming benefits for people in receipt of care services.
