Council has cash for three-quarters of a bridge

6 May 2016

An application to build 300 houses in Westbury goes to the Strategic Planning Committee next Wednesday. The site is near the station at the sailing lakes. Planning officers are recommending the scheme for approval.

Agenda

It was originally hoped that a bridge over the railway line would be build to connect Mane Way with Station Road through the development, and in fact the developers will be contributing £2m towards it. However the cost of the bridge is £4m. WC is sitting on another £1m contribution from the Leigh Park development, so a total of £3m is available.

Without the bridge, traffic along Oldfield Road will increase, though WC Highways officers say this won't matter.

WC officers also say that rather than build a 75% bridge they'll wait for another million to materialise before doing anything.
