Cuts to recycling could save cash

Wiltshire Council wants to cut back the hours of the Household Recycling Centres and cut the number of recycling 'bring sites' around the county. This follows the successful introduction of kerbside collections of most recyclable materials.
139 paper recycling sites at schools will be closed in August. If schools wish to continue to have paper collected they'll have to make a payment either to the council or to a commercial waste company.
Collection of plastic bottles and cardboard from bring sites will stop in October. Paper, glass, cans and textile bins will replace them at those sites which currently only have the plastics and cardboard bins.
All HRCs will close every evening at 5pm, instead of opening later on some evenings in summer as at present.
Annual savings as a result of the cuts are estimated at £300,000.
