Wiltshire Council has closed the old West Wiltshire District Council offices in Trowbridge. The buildings are likely to be demolished and the site sold to a property developer.

The Kennet DC offices in Devizes also closed recently, as did Urchfont Manor, which was used for adult education and conferences.

WC says the sell-offs will save £750,000 per year in running costs as well as providing a capital receipt. Plans to asset-strip the old District Councils were part of the process of moving to one council, though the collapse in property prices means the returns are likely to be less than originally envisaged.

'Hot desking' will mean staff take up less space under the new arrangements.
