Five grand for the band stand

Trowbridge councillor Graham Payne has secured funding from the Area Board to improve the bandstand in Trowbridge park. Together with a contribution from the town council of £2,225, a total of £7,225 will be available.

In his application Graham explained that, "The Bandstand in Trowbridge Park has now become the focal point for drinkers and youths with many resultant forms of anti social behaviour. This was highlighted during the Remembrance Parade and Service when swastikas were in plain view for all to see. The project will involve securing theBandstand with grilles/ gates to stop access by the perpetrators and to secure all windows and doors with safety locks.
The Bandstand will then be repainted, white furniture replaced and the cellar repaired so as to allow entertainment to be held on the stage thus bringing this piece of Trowbridge heritage back into use and so be enjoyed by residents and visitors to the county town.
When complete people will then be able to walk along the pathway in front of the Bandstand without fear of verbal or physical abuse."
