Fox Backs 'Swindon Stop' Campaign

13 Apr 2005

Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate Paul Fox took part in the 'Swindon March' this weekend as part of an ongoing campaign to halt the spread of the town into rural North Wiltshire. Paul has been a long-time supporter of the campaign and was delighted to be able to take part in the march which he has now done for two years running.

The campaign aims to stop Swindon from swamping and coalescing with the towns and villages that are currently its neighbours. Paul said:

"I am very pleased that I could be a part of this campaign once again this year. Swindon's westerly spread threatens to engulf the green buffer that currently separates it from towns such as Wootton Bassett. I feel it is of huge importance to the people of North Wiltshire that this is issue is highlighted and addressed at the highest levels."

He continued: "As a frequent visitor to Wootton Bassett and surrounding areas such as The Lydiards, I have seen first-hand the threat posed by this urban sprawl. The green belt that surrounds Swindon must be maintained as its potential destruction threatens not only our natural rural environment, but also the uniqueness and individuality of life in the region."
