Ghost Flights petition

There are always plenty of petitions which are gathering signatures, but we feel that this one is particularly worthy of your attention: the campaign group Flight Free UK are running a petition to address the wasteful practice of flying planes empty to preserve landing slots, which you can find here: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/605749

They are aiming to reach 100,000 signatures in order for this to be debated in Parliament. 32 people from South West Wiltshire constituency have already signed the petition and it would be great if we were able to increase that number.

'Ghost' flights are a waste of fuel and a needless source of emissions. Even airlines would prefer not to have to fly planes empty, with the CEO of BA's parent company saying, "This forces airlines to operate flights with low load factors, which will generate unnecessary CO2 emissions. This is bad for the environment and detrimental to aviation's efforts to tackle climate change." Reforming the rules around landing slots will help to keep empty planes on the ground.
