Hundreds miss out on school choice

18 Apr 2016

In Wiltshire over 400 children will not be attending their first choice primary school this September as parents find out the results of applications.

Parents who applied online are finding out today (18 April) which school their child will attend in September. This year 8% of parents didn't get a place at their first choice school.

People who applied online can view the outcome of their application today by visiting https://admissions.wiltshire.gov.uk/prefs.php

Most parents now apply for places online with 89% of the 5,328 applications received doing so. Those who applied by post will have their decisions sent to them by first class post today.

Laura Mayes, cabinet member for children's services said: "This is a key day for parents of children about to take that first step into school life and I'm pleased so many Wiltshire pupils will be going to the school of their choice."

All applicants have until 3 May to accept the offer they receive. The right to an independent appeal is open to anyone who has not received one of their preferred schools. Details of how to appeal are included in the decision letter posted to all applicants. Further information is also available on our website http://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/schooladmissions
