Ian West calls for a reduction in the speed limit through Winterbourne Stoke

15 Aug 2011

Councillor Ian West says "It is know over two years since the Highway Agency installed the pedestrian crossing in the village and it has made a big difference for village residents to be able to cross the road in safety, but we still have one major problem that is becoming more frequent as every day passes, motorists are approaching the crossing far too fast and jumping the red lights, frequently you can see skid marks on the road as well, we try to instil into younger residents to make sure that the lights have turned to red and traffic from both directions has stopped before crossing the road".

Cllr West went on to say "I believe the jumping of the traffic lights is happening because the present speed limit of 40mph through the village is to high", he would like the speed limit reduced to 30mph throughout the village as it is in on the A36 T() through South Newton which also has a pedestrian crossing like Winterbourne Stoke.
