It's going to get easier to work out which bin to put your recyclables into,

At the moment glass, tins and cans all go into one black box for collection, with paper, cardboard and plastic put in a blue bin for fortnightly collection.

However from as early as next February, what they call a 'co-mingled collection' are set to begin.

This will see paper, cardboard, plastic bottles, pots, tubs, cans and food and drink cartons dropped into the blue lidded bin, leaving just glass in the black box.

A food waste bin could also be introduced from 2023, with the council waiting to hear if central government will make all councils start food collections.

Wiltshire Council tell us the changes will come in from February 2020 at the earliest.

They will run a full advertising campaign to let us know about how the changes nearer the time.

INCREASE TO RECYCLING

The Council, as well as planning what to do with recycling over the next year, has also been looking back at how the service has been running through 2018/2019.

The figures show that there were 5 million extra items collected through kerbside recycling.

The large increase has been put down to the introduction of the collection of plastic pots, tubs and trays that was started in July 2018.

In total, 700 tonnes of dry recyclables were taken in during the financial year.

Less than 16% of waste collected in Wiltshire now goes to landfill each year.

That's down from 56 percent ten years ago.
