Keep Byway 12 open says Cllr Ian West

22 Jul 2014

Byway 12 near Stonehenge will not close if local councillor Ian West has anything to say about it.

Cllr Ian West is calling on Wiltshire Council to honour a decision by an appointed inspector back in 2011 to keep the by way open for use. Back in 2011 the Council appointed inspector judged it had a 'negligible effect' on Stonehenge and other ancient monuments and Cllr Ian West believes this is still the case. In Council on Tuesday 29th July he will seek assurances that the Conservative administration will continue to honour the reccomendatons of the inspector and keep the byway open.

"I don't see what could have changed," commented Cllr Ian West "if in 2011 it was judged to have a negligible effect then it should still do."

"The Council needs to reassure its residents that it stands by the independent decision made 3 years ago and is not giving into pressure from other groups."

"I hope the Council will stop this speculation and honour the decision made by the inspector."
