Melksham has a new Town Councillor, elected on Thursday.

In a stunning victory, Pat Aves (Lib Dem) received 47% of the vote, beating Labour into third place (19%) and the Conservatives in second (32%).

Speaking after her victory was declared Pat commented "I am delighted and honoured to have been chosen by the people of Melksham Spa to represent them on the Town Council. There is much that I would like to see done in our community and I will be working hard for our town and our area".

Wiltshire Councillor for Melksham South Jon Hubbard said "This is a fantastic result for Melksham. I know the Pat Aves will be a great councillor, and I know she will continue to listen to town residents now she's elected. We'll be out again this week, knocking on doors and talking to local people, and finding out what we can do for Melksham now that the town has been saved from Conservative-control. "I'm delighted that the public have spoken on the culmination of the campaign to save Melksham's town centre library and youth centre. For almost a year now, we've campaigned against these crazy plans from the Conservatives in County Hall, and I'm so pleased they've finally U-turned. We now know Melksham will be getting a town centre campus; it's now up to the town to make sure we get the campus we need"

Further details: Turnout was 27% with Pat Aves (Lib Dem) on 630 votes, Ben Anderson (Con) on 439 votes, and Davina Griffin (Lab) on 266 votes.
