Lib Dems choose local man Mike Evemy for North Wiltshire
Liberal Democrat members in North Wiltshire have chosen Mike Evemy to be their candidate at the next general election.
Originally from South London, Mike, aged 39, has lived and worked in the area for 18 years following his graduation in Economics from the University of York. Mike lives near Cricklade and works as a senior manager for Nationwide Building Society at its Head Office, where he has worked for the last 13 years.
Mike was the Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for North Swindon in 2005 and 1997, increasing the Party's share of the vote by 3.6% last time. He was Leader of the Liberal Democrats on Thamesdown/Swindon Borough Council from 1994 to 2004. He stood down from Swindon Borough Council in May 2006 after 14 years as a local councillor.
Commenting on his selection, Mike said "I'm delighted to have been selected to fight North Wiltshire for the Liberal Democrats. Local people deserve an MP who will stand up for their concerns of fighting crime, preserving our environment and defending local services. I look forward to meeting with and working for people across the new North Wiltshire constituency."
Gavin Grant, Chair of North Wiltshire Liberal Democrats adds "Mike will make an excellent MP for North Wiltshire. He is an experienced campaigner who has a 14-year record of achieving positive change for Wiltshire people."
