Lib Dems support Carers Rights Day
The Lib Dems are asking people across Wiltshire who care for relatives to get in touch and share their story - to mark national Carers Rights Day .
Lib Dem Party Leader Ed Davey has said he wants the party wants to be a "strong voice" for the millions across the country - including the those carers in Wiltshire who care for those who need it.
Ed himself knows the burden put on carers for family members, having been a carer for his mum when growing up and now caring for his disabled son. Carers can get in touch and share their experiences by completing the Lib Dems' carers survey here: www.libdems.org.uk/carerssurvey
The theme for Carers Rights Day 2020 is 'Know Your Rights'
In a recent survey of nearly 6,000 carers, Carers Rights found:
- Four in five unpaid carers are providing more care for relatives
- 78% reported that the needs of the person they care for have increased during the pandemic
- Two thirds (67%) worried about how they will cope through further lockdowns or local restrictions.
Carers need to know their rights wherever they are in their caring journey: whether they are in the workplace, in a healthcare setting, when interacting with professionals or at home.
South West Wiltshire parliamentary spokesperson Ellen Nicholson said:
"Millions of people across the country and over 47,000 people in Wiltshire identified themselves as unpaid carers in the 2011 census. The challenges coronavirus has brought this year has highlighted more than ever the issues many of them face."
"If you are a carer - or someone who receives regular care support from a relative of a friend - we want to hear from you. Please get in touch with us and share your story."
