Liberal Democrats call for pernament return of 1 hour free parking
The public, sections of the media and politicians have welcomed the return of 1 hour free parking in Wiltshire for the Christmas period, but have expressed disappointment that the Conservative administration will not extend this period past the Christmas holidays.
For months, Liberal Democrats have been calling for a return of 1 hour free parking but have constantly been toldit is not financially viable to do so. Therefore Wiltshire Liberal Democrats have expressed surprise that the Conservative administration have suddenly decided this is not the case by reintroducing 1 hour free parking for Christmas, but have refused to fully return 1 hour free parking to Wiltshire residents.
Jon Hubbard, leader of the Liberal Democrats on Wiltshire Council stated, "after being told month after month that any return of 1 hour free parking was not possible by the Conservatives, the administration has done exactly what it said was impossible, this move confirms our plan for a return of 1 hour free parking is possible, and confirms what the Conservatives have been saying for the last year about this issue to be incorrect.
Although the group is pleased with the recent development, if the Conservatives really cared about our market towns high streets, this would be a permanent move and not a short term fix".
