Litter pickers galore

One of the first charity litter picks under Covid-19 pandemic lockdown guidance took place in Trowbridge on Saturday March 27th.

Mel Jacob, chairwoman of the Big Community Grow, which organises the Trowbridge Apple Festival, led a small group of litter pickers in the Castle Mead area. Mel is also the Lib Dem candidate for Paxcroft Ward at the upcoming Wiltshire Council elections.

They were able to collect litter from the Green Lane Nature Park under the watchful gaze of Wiltshire Wildlife Trust, which takes care of the nature park and woods.

Also out on a litter pick, but at the other end of Wiltshire was local Lib Dems candidate for Nadder Valley, Jill Caudle.

Jill said 'Over 40 of us were out yesterday in our High-Viz jackets doing the East Knoyle litter-pick. 106 bags of rubbish (including from the people who started a few days ago), 5 tyres, two car seats and various metal items including a tractor door!! My patch included a lay-by on the B3089 between the traffic lights and Willoughby Hedge services - a ridiculous number of bottles and cans chucked into the brambles, as well as all the plastic food packaging! Why can't people just take their litter home?'
