Melksham - Asda apply for new petrol station

15 May 2016

Asda have submitted a planning application for a filling station at their Melksham store. Although this would be good news for motorists as Asda tend to be cheaper than their rivals when it comes to fuel, adjoining businesses have expressed concern at the loss of parking spaces on the site.

Here's what Asda's agents say about the plans:

"Planning permission is sought for the erection of a four pump petrol filling station with air/water unit and control room. The petrol filling station is to be provided by ASDA in association with the adjacent supermarket. The proposed filling station will incorporate 'pay at the pump' self-service payment at all eight of the filling positions so no kiosk is required. The proposed PFS will result in a reduction of parking by 28 spaces.

The site is located to the northeast of the existing ASDA Superstore on land currently used as part of the car park. The site is accessed using the main access to the store from Bradford Road. The site currently comprises 251 parking spaces of which 16 are accessible and 16 are parent and child."
