The people of Melksham have voted overwhelmingly against the Conservative plans to scrap the town centre Library and Youth Centre.

94% of the vote was against the propositionto move the Library and Youth Centre out of the town centre. More people voted in the Poll than voted for most of the Councillors that represent Melksham and it's surroundings, demonstrating the strength of feeling on the issue.

Jon Hubbard said "This a great success for the campaign (by-election candidate) Pat Aves and I have been running. Now the Conservatives at County Hall will have to sit up and take notice"

"It's an uphill struggle though, with Tories on the Town Council working against the people of Melksham, and helping County Hall to destroy Melksham's Town Centre. Melksham desperately needs local campaigners like Pat Aves on the Town Council. Pat will stand up to the County Hall bullies on June 23rd, and make Melksham a better place to live."

"The next step is for the Council to go back to the drawing board and investigate the possibility of a Leisure Centre-based campus, in the town. This is a golden opportunity for the Conservative Administration to practice what they preach. The people of Melksham have made it quite clear they won't accept losing their town centre facilities, now we will wait and see how much the Administration truly believe in localism."

After the result, Pat Avessaid "I'm delighted for Melksham. The fight back against the County Hall Tories continues."
