Mere listed building renovation approved

An application to renovate The Manse in Boar Street was permitted by the southern area planning committee in Juky, despite being recommended for refusal by WC planning officers.

The scheme involves removal of rendering from the south elevation, replacing an existing bricked up doorway and timber lintel with stone, and re-pointing the
stone wall.

Despite the fact that there were no objections; that Mere Parish Council supported the plan, and that 6 letters of support from the public were received the planners said the impact of the proposed work on the character of the listed building meant it should be refused. They said the wall was meant by the original builders to be rendered and exposing the stonework cheapens the character of the building.

However after hearing from the applicant and her agent councillors decided to overturn the conservation officer's opinion and to give permission.
