Mike writes to the Wilts Gazette about the local council's responsibility for flooding

11 Apr 2010

Mike wrote on the 10th April: "One of the last acts of this wretched Parliament makes councils like Wiltshire legally responsibility for surface water flooding.

Good news for some Dauntsey residents I met this week. They need Wiltshire's Tory-led Unitary Council to pay attention to their very real concerns.

These people, and many more in Calne, Corston, Crudwell, Cricklade, Christian Malford, the Somerfords, Malmesbury and elsewhere know the real misery of flooded homes and businesses.

Threats from global warming increase the likelihood of extreme weather events that create floods. We need a government committed to serious action on climate change.

Local residents deserve an MP who will stop the buck passing, bang various government bodies and local land owners heads together, and ensure Wiltshire Council deliver on their new responsibilities."
