More detail on youth service cuts

Wiltshire Council Conservatives describe their cuts to services for young people as 'successful', This is because money is being saved, and the council can claim credit for anything communities do to make their own arrangements, or in WCspeak:

"This is in line with the council's priority to enable communities to do more for themselves."

The number of youth workers is reduced from 18 to 7.

The northern part of the county is hit less severely, with three officers covering Corsham, Chippenham, Calne, Wootton Bassett, Malmesbury and Marlborough. In the central area just two workers will cover a wide geographical spread taking in Bradford, Trowbridge, Melksham, Warminster, Tidworth, Pewsey and Devizes. That would leave two youth workers to cover the rest of the county, except that nobody has been brave enough to apply for the jobs, so a 'third sector organisation' will be employed.

The new arrangements "will lead to improved linkages and more effective direct delivery despite the lower numbers of staff."

The new roles will be given the grand title of Locality Youth Facilitators and they start work on June 1st
