Ofsted attacks babies

Their School Inspection Handbook, published under section 5 of the Education Act 2005, is aimed at the zero to eighteen age group. The guidance explains to inspectors how to judge schools including 'maintained nursery schools'. It doesn't go into any detail on how to categorise establishments dealing with infants and new-borns, but news reports imply the organisation wants to extend its tick-box empire into the maternity ward.

The sport of finding literary errors in publications produced by or for the guardians of academe is always fun. The 51-page booklet contains just two, which is adequate but leaves room for improvement:

p35. "These descriptors should not to be used as a checklist."

p43. "Pupils' consistently display a thirst for knowledge...."
