"Our Youth Service is more important than a pile of papers" says Wiltshire's Lib Dems

Tomorrow's budget setting meeting of Wiltshire Council will see a Liberal Democrat amendment aimed at saving Wiltshire's Youth Service.

An amendment to the budget put forward by Cllr Jon Hubbard, leader of the Wiltshire Lib Dems, will see an additional £250,000 invested in Youth Services following the planned £0.5m cuts proposed by the Conservative Administration. Local Liberal Democrats have claimed this will avoid the worst of the Conservative cuts to Wiltshire's youth service and will maintain open access Youth Work in Wiltshire.

The savings to fund this comes from cutting £100,000 spent on unnecessary paperwork to councillors as well as having a review of the cost effectiveness of Youth Premises across the county.

"It is a big win for Wiltshire," said Cllr Jon Hubbard "I'm proud that through hard work the Lib Dems have been able to find the money to prevent the worst of the cuts to the Youth Services."

"Local Liberal Democrats have always put Wiltshire first, once again we have demonstrated that we are on people's side and are standing up for them in County Hall." Cllr Jon Hubbard continued.

"The Council should always look to find less painful back office cuts and not put frontline services in the firing line, and if that means giving up on printing our paperwork then that is fine by me. Our Youth Service is more important than a pile of papers. We should spend our money on supporting young people not making councillors lives easy."
