Pat Aves holds her second Melksham Litterpick

6 Jun 2011

Local Campaigner Pat Aves is holding her next Melksham litterpick on Thursday 16th June, at 6pm on Hazelwood Road (meet near Cedar Close).

Please come along to help clean up Melksham, and meet the Lib Dem candidate for the town council election on the 23rd June. Phone 01249 652602 for more info.

Pat is a Melksham local, who has campaigned for the town centre Library and Youth Centre, and against Conservative Plans to move it from the town.

On winning the selection to be the Lib Dem candidate for Melksham Spa Town Council Ward, Pat Aves said:

"I'd like to offer my thanks to everyone who has joined me on my regular litter picks. I can see the difference we make, and I hope the election campaign will encourage more people to join the team cleaning our communities. If you'd like to meet me, and help out keeping our streets clean, please join me on my next litter-pick on Thursday 16th June, at 6pm on Hazelwood Road.

"Why am I asking for Melksham's support? Because I have been so impressed by the hard work of local councillor Jon Hubbard and the Lib Dem Focus Team. If elected I will continue in the Focus Team tradition of not only campaigning all year round, but meeting and talking to residents. The people of Melksham will set my agenda for Melksham.

"Throughout the year, many people have contacted me on the library and youth centre issue. The campaign to save them has really bought the community together, and I want to harness that energy to give a continued strong voice to Melksham people. It came as no surprise to the Lib Dem Focus Team that 94% of people said an emphatic No to the Council's plans. If elected, I will continue to focus my campaigns on maintaining a vibrant town centre for Melksham.

"I promise that if you choose me as your Town Councillor, I will put your views first, not County Hall. I strongly believe that a Town Councillor represents local people, and I will oppose the Council when they try to force decisions on Melksham without local support.

"Don't forget, in Melksham Spa it's always a close fight between the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats. Labour often don't stand candidates here, but last time they did, they got just 8% of the vote. A vote for Labour will help the Tories win."
