Procurement shambles revealed at council meeting

9 Sep 2014

Councillors heard today at a council meeting in Trowbridge that there is to be yet another reorganisation and shakeup of procurement services at Wiltshire Council. Details of the reorganisation, set to be the seventh in as many years, were scarce with councillors given a report of just one paragraph and a promise that they would hear more in November.

Leader of the Liberal Democrat group on the council Jon Hubbard commented, "With 6 reviews to date, and another now starting, and 2 interim Heads of Service having come and gone, when is this Conservative administration finally going to get a handle on their procurement problem?"

"With so many reviews and staff changes in recent years I shudder to think what the cost to the council and taxpayer has been. It's time the Conservatives in County Hall got a grip on their procurement process and start delivering the savings they promised, so they can stop cutting important front line services like the youth service." said Jon Hubbard.

"I'm deeply disappointed in our council leaders, they should be using our money to improve council services not wasting it on reviews and temporary staff, to try and hide their incompetence. This should have been sorted long ago, but the Conservative administration has failed in their role here" commented Cllr Gordon King, the lead Liberal Democrat member for scrutiny.
