Rubbish - should we go monthly?

The tabloids have picked up on a story that Cardiff and Anglesey councils are considering monthly refuse collections, and they are of course generally hostile. Wiltshire Council - with a bit of prodding from opposition councillors - has developed a reasonably advanced and successful recycling system, so amounts of residual waste are going down, and many people are finding their bin less than half full after two weeks.

In fact strictly speaking we don't have a fortnightly collection - we have four collections within every two week period, so an average of a collection every 3.5 days. As collection contracts come up for renewal there's an opportunity so change specifications and save money by collecting non-recyclable waste less frequently, perhaps on a three or four week cycle.
