Seedy schools in Trowbridge

On Tuesday 20th March a new project to support and encourage all schools in Trowbridge to get their children growing their own food and enjoying their grounds will celebrate its launch.
'Poppies & Parsnips' is a social enterprise that aims to bring communities together through gardening and a love of the outdoors. They work with schools and other communities in Wiltshire and beyond to support them to learn the skills to grow and cook their own food and to develop beautiful community spaces.
The BIG Community Grow is a project that is based in the Trowbridge Area and works to support and develop projects in the schools and community centres. "The project will provide physical and practical help alongside a website and blog so that schools can share ideas and arrange swaps of seeds, plants and more" says Jacky Good. The project is already supporting projects at The Mead, Walwayne, The Grove, and Southwick primary schools and also at Studley Green and Bellefield Children's Centres. "Our aim is to develop the project so we can support all 21 schools in Trowbridge" says Mel Jacob. " We want to provide a one-stop shop for schools that gives them all they need to develop their school grounds and get children growing and eating veg!". The project will seek funding on behalf of the schools and for the whole project and work to support those schools that find it difficult to support growing activities as well as those that are already successful but need more help.
The project has already been successful in receiving some funding from Tesco Extra Trowbridge and an award from UnLtd which has paid for the development of the website. They are looking for support to develop the project further, and are applying for grants and asking for sponsorship.
