'Six to Fix' - 4. Care Services
Care Services are one of the most important responsibilities that local government has. However budget cuts and an ageing population mean they are under pressure.
We want to make it easier for care workers to do their jobs, and easier to deal with this pressure. We also want the experience to be better for the people they are caring for. We will do this by following the Scandinavian method.
Research shows that fewer visits, but for longer, are better for everyone. Instead of a care worker visiting a client twice a week for half an hour, they would visit once a week for an hour. It's better for the care worker. It means they have more time to do their job properly. For example, they could help the person have a bath, instead of just a shower for 10 minutes.
It's better for the client. They have more quality time spent on them, where neither person are watching the clock. It's also better for the taxpayer. Less visits means less travelling, which means a smaller expenses bill.
We stand for intelligent solutions to difficult problems, where we maintain a high standard of service, whilst saving the tax payer money.
