Small victory in Canal Road

A queue for the HRC

Wiltshire Council's 'Cabinet' has agreed to allow one more day per week opening of the Household Recycling Centre (HRC) in Canal Road Trowbridge over the summer. Previous cuts had led to difficulties for users of the HRC and massive queues on Canal Road at peak times. Although not provable, the suspicion is that an increase in fly-tipping was linked to the restrictions.

The amendment to the council's budget will see an extra £175,000 going into the recycling service to benefit Salisbury and Stanton St Quentin HRCs as well as Trowbridge. The council will:

"Extend the opening hours at Churchfields, Stanton St Quintin and Trowbridge Household Recycling Centres by 1 day. Following further review in January of traffic, tonnage, contract and public comments there remains a view that the current hours could lead to traffic queueing on the highway and as a result the three main HRCs will open for an extra day April 2017 to October 2017."

This decision follows a long campaign by this website and others to reverse the previous mistake of drastically cutting the opening hours. See previous articles here and here
