Stonehenge - the bungling continues.

Wiltshire Councillor Ian West is calling for an inquiry to be set up over the practices at the Stonehenge site. He has written to John Glen, MP for Salisbury, seeking support and asking him to question the appropriate departments and ask questions in Parliament.

Cllr West said "English Heritage seems to be running out of control having breached three planning conditions by the removal of trees, permissive footpath use, and work on a turning circle for buses on the former county highway, now closed, and trying to cover them up with implausible answers."

Cllr West went on to say,"Now the abandoned 1.2 million pound land train saga has been replaced by single decker buses which have caused over £32,000 of damage to the road. Repairs have been paid for by Wiltshire Council. Visitor numbers have increased markedly since the new facilities were opened and the car/coach parking has now become a sprawling eyesore in the World Heritage site".

"The resulting traffic increases have had an adverse effect on safety and travel in Shrewton, Winterbourne Stoke and the surrounding villages, and on regular users of the A303 route to the South West, especially on Fridays and Saturdays but also most weekdays as well. Work on the local Longbarrow Roundabout has not improved safety or traffic flow. While Wiltshire Council and Highways England sit back and do nothing what hope have the local communities?"
