Superfast broadband gets a step closer to Wiltshire

27 May 2011

Wiltshire Liberal Democrats congratulated the Council on the announcement that £4million of the government's rural broadband funding scheme had been allocated to our county.

Jon Hubbard, Lib Dem Group Leader, said "This is a great win for for the people of Wiltshire, the council was competing against 18 other counties, and it will have a great effect on those doing business in Wiltshire. Broadband is increasingly essential, and this investment will be well received.

"I have always said that where the administration in County Hall get it right I would say so and congratulate them, and this is one of those times.

"It is, of course, going to cost a lot more to cover all of Wiltshire and I'm disappointed that we only got £4m against the £30m going to Somerset and Devon, but this is a step in the right direction. The Liberal Democrats on the Council will work with the Administration to ensure we exceed the government target of 95% coverage by 2015."
