Sutton Veny chicken farm deferred

5 Dec 2012

An application to demolish existing but unused chicken sheds on the Deverill Road Trading Estate between Sutton Veny and Longbridge Deverill, and replace them with a new unit of five sheds capable of holding over 200,000 chickens went to the West Wiltshire planning committee on December 5th.

Planners were recommending permission despite receiving 140 letters and a 400-signature petition opposing the development.

In response to the objections planning officers said the site would need a permit from the Environment Agency and would have to comply with legislation about smells, vermin, pollution and nuisance. They also said the existing road network would cope with the extra traffic.

The committee decided to defer the application for more information on the potential impact on local amenity and to allow the scheme's backers to progress their Environment Agency Permit application. Councillors also resolved to hold a site visit before looking at it again. Agenda
