Today' story - another far-away campus
Part of the justification for Wiltshire Council was the provision of new leisure and health campuses in each community area, paid for through the assets of the old local District Councils. Due to mismanagement the scheme is grinding to a halt without much to show. However the areas where work started first have been able to deliver - the latest one is Pewsey: release from your WC below.
In West Wiltshire District there is little to show. Results for the five towns are:
Bradford on Avon - nothing.
Westbury - nothing.
Warminster - nothing.
Trowbridge - nothing, though an application for a developer-led redevelopment has been in the planning process for some time.
Melksham - a reduced assortment of projects.
Here's what WC says about Pewsey:
....................................................
The new Vale Community Campus is on course to open its doors in the autumn.
Wiltshire Council is building the £8.4m multi-purpose sports, health, wellbeing and community centre on the old Pewsey Sports Centre site.
The campus will offer:
- fitness suite
- fitness studio for group exercise
- four-lane, 25m swimming pool
- sports hall
- cricket nets
- café overlooking the pool
- meeting space
- free parking for up to three hours
- electric car charging
- free wifi
- skatepark
John Thomson, cabinet member with responsibility for campuses said: "The new campus is sure to be a wonderful asset for the community of Pewsey.
"It will offer so many amazing opportunities on one site, and Wiltshire Council are thrilled that we can provide this fantastic facility for Pewsey and the neighbouring area."
While the new centre is being built the fitness suite and exercise classes have moved to a temporary home at SSI House, Fordbrook Business Centre, Marlborough Road, Pewsey SN9 5NU.
For more information on what is on offer at Fordbrook visit www.wiltshire.gov.uk/leisure-pewsey. Customers can enjoy a 15% saving in membership cost while the fitness centre is based at Fordbrook.
