Trowbridge Cinema update

Legal and General's plans for St Stephen's Place in Trowbridge went to the West Wiltshire planning committee in February 2012 and were approved by 9 votes to 2.

The development will consist of a seven-screen cinema, an 80-bed hotel, seven 'family orientated' restaurants, plus cafes, bars and sandwich shops. There will be on-site parking for 100 cars.

The scheme is one of a number being put forward by various developers to regenerate derelict sites in the town centre.

L & G have recently announced Nando's and Prezzo as their first restaurant operators. They say discussions with other operators are at an advanced stage and they hope to make further announcements shortly. Contractors Leadbitter are progressing well with 100 tradespeople employed on site. The ground piling has been completed, ground slabs are installed and the first stages of the structural steel frame will appear soon. Over the winter we'll be able to see structural framing for all the units as the site moves from ground works construction to superstructure. The scheme is on track to open in October. Before that in April the cinema will be handed over to Odeon for fitting out, and in August the handover to Premier Inn and the restaurants will take place.
