Trowbridge opposes Bath lorry threat
Trowbridge Town Council has added its voice to the campaign to resist any closure of Cleveland Bridge in Bath to lorries. The effect of such a lorry ban would be to send more HGVs through Wiltshire towns and villages.
At its meeting on 17th May TTC resolved to write to Bath and North East Somerset Council rejecting any suggestion of a weight limit through Bath, without a suitable alternative being provided which does not impact adversely on communities in Wiltshire.
Clerk Lance Allen said: "Trowbridge Town Council is concerned that the implementation of any restrictions on LGV traffic in Bath City such as weight limits being imposed on the Cleveland Bridge and Bathwick Street, which resulted in no through route from the A46 to the A36 via the City for HGV traffic would have a severe and unacceptable impact upon communities in Wiltshire, including those communities adjacent to the A363, A350 and B3105. Any suggestion that the majority of traffic would use alternative routes via Bristol/South Gloucestershire and the Lower Bristol Road are unfounded and based upon flawed logic. The Town Council would urge B&NES Council to dismiss any proposals until a suitable alternative, which does not have an adverse impact upon communities, has been delivered."
