An application from the Roundstone Street premises to open until 2am every night, to sell hot food and drink, and to provide musical entertainment was considered at a licensing hearing held in Trowbridge on December 22nd.

The hearing was necessary because of objections to the proposal from the nearby Polebarn Hotel and from Environmental Health officers.

The owners of the Polebarn Hotel claimed that noise from the Caffe, including that from smokers congregating outside, would disturb themselves and their guests, as well as other residents in the area.

The licensing panel decided to allow the application, but with restrictions which would prevent amplified music after midnight or acoustic music after 1am. Alcohol sales were permitted until 1.30am with the premises to close at 2am. Other conditions required noise levels to be monitored with action to be taken to avoid nuisance, and customers would not be allowed to take food or drink out into Roundstone Street, or into the open area behind the Caffe after 9pm.
