WC hoardings

Wiltshire Council intends to use the hoardings around the bits of County Hall currently being rebuilt to broadcast messages to the local population on the wondrousness of WC.

However Trowbridge Town Council objected due to the content of the signs (lacking a relationship to the activity on site) and to the fact that they were "demonstrating insensitivity at a time of cuts". The Town Council also asked for the "Transforming Trowbridge" logo to be incorporated.

Because it counts as advertising on the public highway planning permission is required so the signs were considered by the WC western area committee on August 17th.

WC has since agreed to attach an additional "Transforming Trowbridge" logo but says only amenity and highway safety can be considered, and "Sensitivity to current economic conditions is not considered to affect these factors." Neither is the cost to the taxpayer a planning matter.

The Wiltshire Council planning committee agreed to give Wiltshire Council planning permission for the signage.
