UK negotiates loophole in Saudi export ban to sell planes for use in Yemen
Over 17000 civilians have been killed or wounded in the on-going war in Yemen. South West Wiltshire's current Conservative MP Andrew Murrison actively defends the sale of arms to Saudi Arabia in the full knowledge that such weapons are being used in the conflict causing untold suffering.
Ellen Nicholson, your Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate criticised his position saying, 'I'm not a pacifist but having had exposure to Vietnamese refugees and the consequences of war I simply cannot support these arms sales.'
Local Mp Andrew Murrison, the new Middle East minister, argued: "If we did not sell arms in the way that we do for legitimate self-defence in accordance with international law then other countries would so and probably a lot less ethically."
He said some operations had gone horribly wrong but the Saudis had produced 100 investigations into them.
