WC removing street names

During World War 2 street names in Britain were removed to confuse any invaders. In subsequent decades many of them were put back, and the old District Council made sure all new developments in West Wiltshire were properly equipped with name plates.

But now WC has decided the time for confusion has returned. When street name plates get damaged - and those on street corners are vulnerable to careless motorists - they will not be replaced. Here's what the Conservative authority says:

"The funding for the replacement/renewal of street nameplates is drawn from our general signing and lining budget. Spending from this budget is allocated on a priority basis with lining and signing that is considered of a safety related nature taking priority.

Unfortunately Street nameplates are not considered to be of a safety nature therefore it is unlikely that any nameplates will be replaced this financial year."

So if you get lost in West Wiltshire you'll know who to blame.
