Westbury bypass - could it return from the dead?

Wiltshire Council still wants to build a bypass on the eastern route through the Wellhead Valley. This is despite the scheme having been comprehensively rejected by a government inspector in 2009. WC is attempting to safeguard the route as part of the Core Strategy - the planning document which will define development in the county for the next decade.

The effect of WC's persistence in seeking to revive the bypass is to blight property along both the main route and that of the proposed link road from Lafarge to the West Wilts Trading Estate.

Campaigners are suggesting that the 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty' which includes neighbouring parts of Salisbury Plain should be extended to include the beautiful valley which would be wrecked by the road. You can support them here.
