Where is Wiltshire Council's £2.2million on spin doctors being spent?

20 Apr 2011

Local residents have questioned what Wiltshire Council's Policy & Communications department are doing with their £2.2million of taxpayer's money, when the latest editions of the Thompson Local Phone Directories still have the obsolete district council contact details

Lib Dem Group Leader, Jon Hubbard said "The Conservative Administration insist on spending millions of taxpayers money on spin doctors, but can't even get their details in the phone directory."

Wiltshire Councillor Mark Packard commented: "The old district councils were able to get themselves in the phone book, with far smaller communications budget. Jane Scott, Conservative Leader on Wiltshire Council, has recently confirmed her commitment to spending public money on marketing the council, but where is that money going, if they can't get the council into the Phone Book?"

The Thompson Local Phone Books for 2011/2012 both contain information on the pre-2009 District Councils, despite the Conservative Administration's stated focus on branding and marketing.

Lib Dem Group Leader, Jon Hubbard, said "First they get their priorities wrong; marketing the Council is hardly the most important thing to focus on at times like these; and then they don't achieve anything with this wrongheaded priority. Wiltshire residents don't need advertising and PR, they need a functioning Council that gets the basic services right."
